Adventures in Charlevoix, Michigan April 18, 2014

We know we'll be leaving Michigan soon, so we decided we need to see a little bit more of this beautiful state.  There's a good chance we'll never be back again!  I really wanted to see Lake Michigan frozen.  This had been a cold and snowy winter, so Lake Michigan still had icy parts in the middle of April!  And since I'm writing this post the end of June, Lake Superior's ice wasn't all gone until the last week of May!
So we spent the day in Charlevoix which is on the north west side of the state on Lake Michigan.  I love the name "Charlevoix"!  And we weren't disappointed in the ice we saw!
Yes that's me standing about about 100 yards into Lake Michigan!  The wind and currents push the ice towards shore.

I couldn't get Andy to go out so he took the pictures!

The light house was a little disappointing but the Lake made up for it!

Yes it was cold!

We ate lunch at the Asian Fusion Restaurant and Andy got a great message in his fortune cookie!

In town were these "mushroom houses" designed by architect Earl Young.  They looked like hobbits should live in them!

Fisherman's Island State Park looking for petoskey stones. (We didn't find any this trip!)  Not as much ice here!
This was a place called "Castle Farms."  It was built in the early 1900's  by the owner of Sears Roebuck, Co., as a home and dairy farm, and has recently been restored.  They have weddings and other events there.  It was quite beautiful and had interesting things on display.
