Pictured Rocks, Munising, Michigan June 21, 2014

The upper peninsula, or U.P. as they call it in Michigan, is AWESOME!!!!  I wish we had spent more time up here.  When you cross over the Mackinac Bridge, from lower Michigan, you enter a different place.  It's much more sparsely populated, and "remote" feeling.  Pictured Rocks is on Lake Superior. The best way to view them is by boat, so we took the cruise out of Munising.  Pictured Rocks are sandstone cliffs that tower 50-200 feet above the water, and extending for about 40 miles.  The colors are formed by the minerals in the ground water that are constantly seeping through the rock.  Iron (red, orange), manganese (black), limonite(white), copper(green), and other minerals leave behind a colorful stain.  The formations are made from years of water erosion, and are quite beautiful.  You can also hike the trail, or parts of it, or kayak in the Lake, which would be another great adventure!  Mark and Adrienne and James came along for this fun trip.  On the way home we had dinner in the touristy Mackinaw City and sampled some fudge!
The "mosquito dance" while unloading our picnic lunch at the beach.

It was a little cold-well, a lot cold-on the boat!

Ahoy matties!  Urrgh!
